Wait. It "prevents the development" of elite Canadian players to have more good players in their league to play against night in, night out? And their development would be furthered by replacing those star imports with Canadian guys who would otherwise be playing lower level hockey?

Or are you saying that maybe a relevant portion of those guys who couldn't make the CHL would, if given the chance, become such elite players that they could make a Canadian national team?

I'm not sure which of those arguments is crappier than the other.
