There's been a little splash of "AHL teams moving west" rumor from a questionable source, but if both the Kings-owned AHL team and the San Jose-owned AHL team are both moveable in the same off-season, might that open a window?
I know that Dean Lombardi has openly contemplated having their affiliate located closer to them, but I'm not sure how that would work logistically due to the ECHL factor and the travel that their AHL team would have to endure if they moved out west. The only team on the West is in Abbotsford, BC, and they're affiliated with the Calgary Flames. Then you have three teams in Texas (Cedar Park, San Antonio, Houston) and Oklahoma.

While it may seem conventional to have a minor league affiliate in close vicinity, I don't think all the travel the players on their minor league club will benefit much from a move, unless as you suggested, multiple teams decided to move out west.
