I don't like Eller in the middle from what I've seen. I think they should see if he can score. I also think Gomez's bicep will be healed and he can return to a decent level of play. Also, since the season starts soon and we have a new coach and system, we need his experience. I don't see him playing his way to Hamilton. I think he'll be a Hab. And he's a better center than Eller.
Even when they were booing him in NY, he was putting up 70 points. They expected him to repeat that one big year he had with Gionta. He's not that player. But he can easily dominate from the third line if he's given some size or someone to help dig out pucks (Prust?). He's never had that here. And if you give him Gionta and roll three lines, we can catch teams flatfooted. Especially at home.
I'm not counting my chickens, but I think they have to let him play and see (if he's in shape and works hard in camp).
Also, there's no guarantee Eller is going to take the next step either.
