He's basing those pairings on the chemistry Poti and Carlson showed against Montreal. Obviously it's a small sample, but it was the best Carlson's ever been without Alzner. As good as they are together, the main issue seems to be whether Carlson can maintain his play without Alzner, who generally does fine outside the pairing.
