Exactly. He was one of the most underrated dmen in the league for a lot of years. Sometimes when people would ramble on in the Langway days about creating an award for defensive defensemen, you could even hear the occasional mention of Ludwig's name somewhere way down on the list. He wouldn't be all that well suited to today's game, perhaps, but he was a great shot blocker, probably the pre-eminent one of his time on the blueline, the way Jay McKee does today. And as another in the long Montreal-Dallas pipeline, he will surely have all the ties he needs to the current regime.
