Boston would not have traded Thornton to Montreal unless they vastly over payed. Even if they had a deal on table similar to SJ, it wouldn't have been good enough, since it is montreal. I am not even sure they could have put a package together the Bruins would have accepted. Also I would think that Riberio would likely have been assignated in his first week as a Bruin. I also believe that if montreal knew thornton was going to be traded they would at least make an offer. I think that every team in the league would have made an offer if they knew he was on the block. Young High-calibre players don't come up for grabs to often, at least for now.
