This is nonsense.

One of the things that Mike O'Connell said was the only team he ever talked to about a Joe Thornton trade was San Jose. At the time of the deal a few General Managers expressed their shock that he was even available as they were never informed. When O'Connell was fired, one of the main criticimsms he faced was that he dealt away the Art Ross winner without even finding out what his market value was by faxing all of the league's GMs and letting them know that he was tradeable.

Never mind that the Bruins would never trade a player of that calibre to Montreal, the plain fact is that Boston never told Montreal, or anybody for that matter, that Thorton was available.

Either you, or your "friend" is a liar. I suspect it's you because their is zero link between Molson and Bob Gainey's office.
