Semin is more or less the same player and he only managed a one year deal. Better than Kessel defensively, no less physical (even more if you can believe it, not that it matters), better wrist shot. I don't think Kessel will have any issues getting 7 years and about $50 million on the open market as long as he's healthy going forward. Very similar skill set to Kovalchuk.
