Bruins Sign Jay Pandolfo

Bruins invite Jay Pandolfo to training camp

Jay Pandolfo has been invited to Bruins training camp, according to two sources familiar with the decision.

The ex-Boston University star played for the Islanders in 2011-12. Pandolfo scored one goal and had two assists in 62 games while averaging 10:55 of ice time per appearance.

Pandolfo has been practicing with the Bruins all week, both at Ristuccia Arena and at BUís Agganis Arena. On Friday, Pandolfo wore a Bruins practice jersey for the first time. When asked about the uniform, Pandolfo said he was given the Bruins sweater to fit in with the rest of the players.

The Burlington native played for Claude Julien in 2006-07 when the current Bruins coach stood behind the New Jersey bench. The 38-year-old Pandolfo is a defense-first left wing who can kill penalties.

The Bruins considered inviting Pandolfo to camp prior to the 2011-12 season. Instead, the Bruins invited former Washington captain Chris Clark. The Bruins didnít sign Clark.
