Don't want to answer the Rodgers/Laudrup question as it's better for somebody else to do so, but I actually think Podolski is a very average combination of those things. His goal output for time on the pitch as well as price is also far less than I would hope for.

I would take Giroud as tactically, you can adjust things to make him and his team more productive. I do not see any way for Podolski to become a 20 goal guy on a semi-regular basis as he doesn't have the instincts to get past defenders nor the pace. If you don't have that, you need to be really shifty like a Suarez (who doesn't have the guile to get past the defense with a back shoulder run and isn't incredibly pacy, yet still scores loads), which Podolski is not.
