It's pretty bad. Montreal needs Subban. Without him, our D is atrocious. There is no other 1st pairing D in Montreal at the moment. Gorges is there now by default. Very good guy and all but he would be better suited on the second pairing. Markov is still an unknown right now. Chances of him regaining his #1 status are very slim from what we've seen last spring. He's better now than last spring, but how much better. Kaberle, Diaz, Emelin, Bouillon, Weber just don't fit onto the first pairing at all at this stage in their respective careers. Beaulieu is at least a year away from the first pairing, probably more. Tinordi will be the shut down guy, maybe on the first pairing but not now.

So Montreal can't afford to trade Subban unless a replacement comes the other way or in another trade. Their D would be worst than what the Oilers D looks to be this year.

The guys available are Kaberle and Weber. If your team needs someone who can play on 2nd or 3rd pairing and either be the QB or shooter on the PP, these guys can help, and they won't cost an arm and a leg.

Bergevin already said this morning that trading PK has never even entered his mind.
