You have an asset that's not bringing you any return. There is a point ownership needs to either get the player on the ice, or get something in return.
NHL teams won't sit on players for too long either. They don't have a choice. And - yes, the league pressured BC to make a deal or get a commitment. Why wouldn't they? They wanted Mac in the Q, not in the USHL. They didn't want to risk that loss...

I don't think the MacKinnon camp would of let it go that far.
The Lancers were used a powerplay, it wasn't where he wanted to be be. He used them to show he was serious about not reporting.
He had a size able list of cities he would of played in.
