Yes, a team would have to put in a claim and then assign that player to their NHL team. If they then want to put that player to the 'A', he would have to clear waivers again and the team he was originally with has the right to claim him, if he passes the waiver, and assign him to their AHL club over the team that just put him through waivers.
Interesting point you brought up, who do you think made the team? Or who you think we would pick up on waivers?
