I used to be very high on Laracque. I really wanted that Laperriere-Begin-Laracque energy line.
However, having seen him play a bit in Edmonton these playoffs, I find myself doubting his usefullness to us.
I'd take him as a 750k/yr heavyweight fighter (Downey is a middleweight more in the mold of Chris Neil than McGrattan) but I'd fear for his willingness to involve himself.
There were times when he was sent on the ice as a message giver, as a clear deterrant against an over-reaching team (Carolina rushing Rollie by example) and he seemed to come off a bit soft.
The problem with enforcers is that they sometime think they can become power forwards. They stop playing physical, they take intimidation as a given (instead of working for it with bodychecks and ruff necked play) and they try to play the puck instead of the body.
He is slow on his skates so he really has to play with a definitive mean streak if he wants to be usefull with his team.
I just dont think he has that mean streak.
I would not pay him over 1 mil.
