Not to rub it in, because karma and hockey go hand-in-hand, but I remember that game as a Blues fan living in California at the time.
Clearly, Courtnall threw an elbow right onto Storr's chin. Clearly, he got his ass kicked afterwards. Rightly so. The 5 minute major seemed a bit much, but the score was 3-0 so everyone thought it was no big deal.
When the Blues scored the first PP goal, I thought, "well, we got a little back".
The second, I thought, "we might get back in this".
The third, I thought, "we're going to win".
And the fourth, I thought, "maybe that shouldn't have been a five minute major".
As a Blues fan, I was ecstatic, but I felt for you guys, because that turned the whole series. Instead of 2-1 with one more at home, the Kings went down 3-0, virtually inescapable.
I got tickets over the phone the next day and made my 8-months pregnant wife drive down to Game 4 with me the day after that. I witnessed the sweep...quietly. The guy next to me, a Kings season ticket holder and super-nice guy, was telling me about how the Blues fans were running for their lives after Game 3. What a series. I remember it being much closer than 4-0 looks on paper.
I still enjoy Blues/Kings games, but it's more because I watched your boys for three years while I lived in SoCal than because of anything that happened in that series.
Anyway, thanks for conjuring that memory for me. A great day for Blues fans, but also my first (and last) visit to the Forum. And a great time with a Kings fan who was slowly dying next to us, but refused to admit it.
