That's all well and good... until you realize that Ron Wilson isn't the only reason he plays 14 minutes a night. The fact is, this team has JML & Gardiner... one of whom is undoubtedly better than him, the other who the organization views as much more important.

Franson's got all the tools to be a VERY GOOD defenceman in this league, and I personally don't think top pair is totally out of the question. However, I don't think that's going to happen in Toronto. There's too many puckmovers ahead of him, and puckmovement is how he's gotta work his way up the lineup.

That being said, Toronto really isn't in a position to trade him without a defenceman coming back.
