Who exactly is down on him? Some people made comments about his lack of speed, others the fact (and it is a fact) that's he's overpaid, some others his relative lack of hitting, but no one said he played poorly last year and most said (or implied) they were satisfied with his play.

He's a solid complimentary defenseman. He's not great, but he's good enough and will hide his partner's shortcomings. However, even his strengths can't hide the fact (my opinion of course) that he and Roszival leave a lot to be desired as a #1 pair in this league. Hopefully, he will get that partner, because I'm far as I'm concerned, this team won't get much better than it is now--and has the potential to be a lot worse--if things don't start out as well as they did last season.
