Didn't Cherepanov have a heart condition? Give me a break. It happened one time. They're worried that something that happened once will happen again? It's like not flying because plains crash one time in a million. The chances of this happening are even lower. For that reason they decide to forego a guy that has superstar talent for a what might be an average defenseman if he's lucky? When we have guys like Staal, Girardi, MDZ (coming off a good season no less), and McDonagh either in the system or in the NHL? Atrocious. Even if McIlrath becomes another McDonagh, this was a bad pick. We have enough young D-men. Oh and his ceiling is probably not that high even. Terrible asset allocation.
