Think about how this team is set up, both in regards to player type and budget. Tippett loves veterans, so there's really little point to drafting a guy for his NHL readiness. Veterans can be signed cheaply and represent little risk. They are arguably a better fit for a team coached by Tippett than some homegrown talent. I think this is doubly true for D. You can assemble a pretty solid group, and so long as they stick to the system they will be relatively successful.

So I say swing for the fences on the forwards wherever possible. If it doesn't work out, no loss. You've got far fewer spots open anyways. This is not a team looking to plug holes in 1-2 years with draft picks. Just draft a boatload of talent, let it marinade and see what you end up with. As good as Henrik Samuelsson is, his ceiling isn't that high. Safe picks are boring. Collberg or Aberg would have been more exciting. Swedes almost never end up totally useless.

I don't think our drafts are going to be very exciting under Knickle.
