I read Boomer's autobiography and he said that Danny was doing well but management told him to bench him. Of course, the Boomer was known for wild exaggeration, so whatever truth there is there, who knows?

Also, I don't think Pollack had much of a hand in the drafts in the latter part of his reign. A hockey committee led by Al McNeil, Ruel, and I believe Curry made all the decisions with input from Beliveau. This was the case under Grundman as well, the guy who takes all the blame for the Wickenheiser pick when it wasn't even his decision.
