Not everyone has that makeup, of going into corners etc. etc.
With a team like the Oilers, their coach (they should get Jacques Martin by the way, he'd be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G with a young group like this) need to instill three-zone play. Too many times I've seen their kids just charge up for offense and look very non-committal in their own end or the neutral zone.
Until someone instills defensive accountability, and the sooner the better, the team will continue to be putrid defensively.
