I'm gettin PS4 at launch, mostly because I have a hunch Gaikai will be PS3 backwards compatibility and the PS4 itself should be able to play PS1 and PS2 innately. If that is true, I can put away my PS1, 2 and 3 after buying 4.
Btw- There's a rumor that Microsofts next console will be called...Xbox, following apple
Edit: As I said before, consoles do effect PC game development for two reasons.
1) The graphical leap means games ported to the PC will be more demanding, thus the requirements to play a game will jump up on average
2) If the architecture is too different between between consoles and PCs, this can lead to wonky ports either way. Going into this new gen, both systems seemingly using 8 core processors may hamper some PC ports because that is not a widespread PC setup...yet. But good devs will solve those problems.
