Flyers left wing Scott Hartnell is out indefinitely with a left foot injury, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Hartnell was hit by a shot from the point from defenseman Kimmo Timonen in the third period of Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils in Newark.

"Scott will be out indefinitely with a left foot injury," Holmgren said in a statement. "We will know more on this within a day or two as we await results of tests."

The Flyers' leading goal-scorer last season, Hartnell was absent from practice Wednesday. Danny Briere, who is working his way back from a wrist injury, took his spot on the top line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. Briere, however, won't be back in the lineup until at least the weekend.

A day after the Flyers earned their first win of the season, the news grew more grim on the injury front.

General manager Paul Holmgren said on Friday that defenseman Andrej Meszaros is expected to miss a month after suffering a left-shoulder injury during Thursday's 2-1 win over the visiting New York Rangers.

Meszaros was hurt when he was hit by Ryan Callahan late in the second period. Veteran Andreas Lilja has been recalled from the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, to replace Meszaros.
