It isn't unusual to have great defensive players be a minus on the season, especially if they are in a 3rd or 4th line role. ROR has only had 1 year of being a plus player. Pahlsson (one of the best pure defensive players of the 2000's) had only 1 season of being a plus player. I could go on with this list to include players like Brandon Sutter, Brodziak, Nielson, etc. Because a player is a minus, doesn't mean they are bad defensively by any means.
