There is a stat for team defense. It's called goals against. The team as a whole tries to stop goals from being scored. Their success of failure in that endeavor is clearly defined by goals against.
Where the problem lies is in trying to extrapolate how much of a role the goalie plays in team defense. That is done by comparing the variables (the different goalies a team uses) by the constant (the team in front of them).

What are you talking about? I fully understand the argument. Moreover, I refuted your claim through solid, incontrovertible evidence. Your response is essentially "there is no stat to quantify defense/goalie performance," then "you don't get it."
