Avs looking for answers.

After last seasons disaster, finishing outside the playoffs, the Avalanche have had an even worse start to the season. With 10 games played the Avs have won just two games and are stuck down at 28th in the league standings. Few would have bet money on a start this bad, especially after the team had a good pre-season.

One could ask where the problems are. The easy answer is special teams. Both the PP and the PK rank 27th at 11% and 66%. The team has scored 4 goals on the man advantage and allowed 11 goals against while shorthanded. Another problem is the low shots for and high shots against. While the goaltenders have done a good job stopping pucks, it's not easy to win games when the team gets outshot every night.

Right now the Avalanche are at a crossroad. Starting the season without Crosby for the first 5 games, the team was able to play only 3 games with a full roster, before second line center Bäckström was injuerd. He's expected to be out for the next month or so and the Avalanche have some deceisions to make. If the team can't turn things around and find a way to win games, heads could roll. Some of the guys that could be looking for new homes in the near future are. Lupul, Kunitz, Visnovsky, Robidas, Leopold, Sauer and Hecht.
