As great as Marty has been, the Habs fans and media act as if we would be sipping the Cup if he were ours in the 90s and later. Pffft. We were average even with Roy in 1995. How would Brodeur have propelled a team destroyed by Corey and Houle further than maybe a fluke 2nd or 3rd round appearance? Goaltending was our strength post 1998 anyway. We recovered in goal, but where we didn't recover from losing Roy was mentally, the mental strength and leadership he brought. Something the Devils will struggle to replace when Brodeur retires, even if they find a capable netminder who can challenge for a Vezina.
