EDM Reasoning: Hemsky is unlikely to return a premier forward, d-man or goalie. Thus, getting ahead of the curve, EDM should look to replace Horcoff as the 3C sooner rather than later. Hemsky could be used to acquire that 3C. Eller is big, strong, fast, responsible, but his hockey sense is better suited for the third line (much like Paajarvi IMO). Eller is signed for another season at $1.325M.

MTL Reasoning: Lars Eller has been displaced by Alex Galchenyuk at 3C. MTL could use a winger for Plekanec while MaxPac is on IR. Hemsky and Plekanec have played on the same CZE national team numerous times, meaning there could be some instant chemistry between them. At $5.5M, Hemsky is signed for another season and should be open to a reasonable extension if all goes well.

When winger Ryan Jones gets back from IR in about a week, the EDM lineup would look like this...

Left - Center - Right
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Yakupov - Gagner - Jones (IR)
Hartikainen - Eller - Paajarvi
Belanger - Horcoff - Petrell
Smyth, Hordichuk, Eager (IR)

Until MaxPac is back from his appendectomy in about a month, MTL would look like this:

Left - Center - Right
Gionta - Plekanec - Hemsky
Bourque - Desharnais - Cole
Prust - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Moen - White - Armstrong
Pacioretty (IR), Nokelainen (IR), Blunden

These may even be playoff caliber forward corps depending on how each teams young forwards hold up down the stretch.

Montreal would be stupid to trade Eller as he's 23... He has the tools. Lets see how he turns out. Maybe if they're really in it at the deadline, they include Eller in some sort of upgrade deal.. Wont be for Hemsky though. The fans would eat him alive.
