He's just 23 and has average 50pts per 82 games during his career. I really don't understand all the Gagner hate.
Gagner has never scored 50 points in the NHL. I don't care about pro-rating since he has been around long enough to have either done it or not. He is mostly an offensive oriented player who is not strong on the puck and loses too many battles. His defensive skills have improved, but not significantly enough to make him a valuable checking line center. His offence has never approached what DD did as a rookie! Gagner would not have the chemistry DD has with Pacioretty. There is nothing about Gagner that makes me believe he is even close to DD in value other than his age. At BEST, it is a lateral move costing us cap space. At worst, it is a massive asset management disaster.
Wow...I can not even imagine making Gagner our 1st line center with Pacioretty and Cole when we would still have Eller, Plekanec, and Galchenyuk as centers on our team. Seriously, why would we trade for Gagner? What line would he play on?
Worthless for our team. Period.
