I think that you're playing a nitpicking role with the benefit of hindsight and it's easy to proclaim exactly what a player should have done when you're sitting on the couch watching the game. Edit: I don't mean this to be a personal attack either, it's not like I'm not also sitting around offering my opinion the same way. I just think this is a situation that's been broken down to a level that's not useful or realistic.

99 times out of 100 nothing bad happens in that situation and we don't care and life goes on. The one time something bad happens, it's silly to go back and talk like it was the easiest thing in the world to do something different or know how to perfectly play the situation so that not only does Callahan not get hurt but he diffuses any attempt by the Flyers to gain momentum, etc etc. Callahan did what nearly every player in the NHL would do in the same situation, there was just an unfortunate result this time
