And if he leaves, who takes over his leadership position? Koivu is the captain and the face of the franchise, but Souray and Rivet are the guys who rile up the troops. They are the guys who lead by giving the speeches and stuff. Ever notice at the end of every single game, Souray and Rivet stand by the bench and give each player props and a few extra words to the guys who played extra well? Then they do their little secret handshake thing where they tap each other's forehead. This kinda stuff is important to the lockerroom...It's tradition and it hurts the team bigtime when you lose guys like this.

Think of when we lost Quintal. Maybe he wasn't the best player, but trust me when I say the guys missed him in the lockers.
I do not disagree with you about what Souray bring to this team, but again, you are assuming that Gainey can't get something decent for him. I agree that if he's only offered 7th round pick, might as well keep him... but Gainey will have to keep his ears open for any potential deal here. We could get another UFA to be like Souray, we could pakage him with our usual suspect (Rib, Zed, Aebi, etc). It will all come down to this: what help more this team: one more season of Souray of whatever is being offer in return of his services.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying "trade Souray at any cost". I'm saying, Souray's days in MTL may come to an end very soon as I beleive that Gainey will be lisning at offers for him. If the good one come along, he'll pull the trigger as there is no certainty as to Souray's future with this team pass next season.
