Rask kind of had the Bruins right where he wanted them when Thomas decided not to play. I think he absolutely could have asked for a long term/big money contract straight away but he did the right thing and asked for a one year contract to prove himself. I don't really see how that would change next season. But I suppose you could be right assuming he took less for one year knowing he'd probably have a good year and then jack up his price.
