There's only so many assists a guy can get when his line mates have no finish, or in Backstroms case just doesn't want to even try.

His playmaking assists (as opposed to rebounds/deflections/scrambles created as a result of him throwing off the defense and capitalized on) are generally the result of him breaking the defense wide open on the rush and throwing passes across for tap ins. He's obviously a good passer but he doesn't thread no look passes through 3 guys or anything like that.
As far as limited skillset,
-crap backhand
-choppy/ineffective skating
-crap backwards skating
-one deke/one power move
When he's on he obviously makes the best of what he's good at and then some but when he's not it all comes to the forefront. Problem is the rush down the wing/toedrag/snipe can literally only be done when you're on and going balls to the wall.
