New RFA rule in CBA (Never draft a Russian)

One other thing: O’Reilly can become an unrestricted free agent after NEXT season if he doesn’t sign with the Avs by then. Right now, the Avs are saying they won’t trade him at all this season, despite a TON of teams around the league calling about him. But obviously, if things remain at an impasse with the Avs on a contract, they will have to trade him at some point before next season, unless they want to lose a young, valuable, two-way center who plays with heart and leadership for nothing.
So this means the new CBA if a player as a RFA does not play in the NHL for two years he becomes a UFA

Example
Yakupov plays his ELC in Edmonton 18,19,20
Gets a big two year KHL offer and takes it 21,22
UFA in NHL at 23
