If we're going to give a shot in the top 6 to a guy like this, I'd just as soon have had Nick Johnson back because he's bigger, smarter and slicker, if much slower.
We had an open roster spot (or will when Niskanen goes on IR... or we waive Lovejoy
). What risk is there to dress him and give him a few games alongside Sid or Geno? He can't be any worse than what they've had to date. If it doesn't work out, then waive him, and let Carolina take him back. This is a no risk type of move.
Might as well try the free player before spending assets on someone else (which almost certainly won't happen for a few weeks anyway).
