Last time Whitney was healthy, he was a close to point per game defenseman with one of the best breakout passes in the league. The team would be monumentually stupid not to give him a chance to get his game together, his value to the team(either on the ice or in a trade) is important to the franchise.

You don't just toss him into the trash heap after 5 games in a lockout year with no training camps for a guy signed to provide depth for an AHL farm team.
