To clarify, I interpreted the OP as being a high draft pick with huge expectations that struggled with his original team but later had a huge amount of success after being traded.
A change of scenery, in my opinion, means any player that everyone knows is underperforming expectations(which Selanne certainly was at that time) who manages to turn it around somewhere else. I don't think it's limited to prospects.
