Yes I read it, but I really don't think it is as important and telling a stat as you and the author are making it out to be (especially through the four or five games he played in). Wellwood carrying the puck into the zone a lot does not sound like a reason to keep him up. I'm not knocking him at all, I'm just saying that this stat doesn't sway me one way or the other. I don't see the presence of bad linemates as something that would make this stat of his more impressive. Perhaps he is carrying it in more
of his poor linemates inabilty to be open for a pass or in position for a dump-and-chase play. I really have nothing against Wellwood, but pointing to this stat as proof-positive that he should be in the NHL (especially after only a handful of games) is not something I can get on board.
Also, from that same website I found this...
First, as mentioned in the comments yesterday, when the fourth line carries the puck into the offensive zone, that leads to a lot of chances against. So while the top 9 should push every marginal edge, the fourth line should be a bit more cautious.
So now maybe this is the reason why he was sent down?
