The guy has been getting better and better as well. There are his stats in the last nine games:

It isn't a significant difference by any means statistically, but he is clearly becoming a lot more comfortable on the court and I think it bothers some that they are trading a guy who is seemingly starting to show the potential that they have been looking for the last few years. Also doesn't help that they are adding a player who plays the same as the current best player.
Personally, I don't think losing Davis is that big of a deal. At his age, he should already be dominating if he has any chance to be a star player. I think he'll turn into a good player, but not someone that will be an impact player.

I haven't seen much from him, but when I do, his offensive game still looks very unpolished.
