As far as Defenseman go probably Nick Theriault cause of his Shot and the defenseman I cant think of his name of hand that played for the 07 Canada university games team???
Your points about the new arena are exactly what I was thinking. The LBR (as much as I love the old barns) may have been viewed as a bush league facility by potential recruits.

Ian Turner is I believe the defenceman you are referring to.
