Much improved? Improved with the addition of Semin and J.Staal, sure, but thats on offense. How about their defense? Sanguinetti is an improvement over an orange cone. Pitkanen is really good when he's good, and a ghost when he's bad. Corvo is 35, and is not a defensive d-man. Faulk, while showing improvement and skills in his season so far, is only 20, and has a bit to learn before he's reliable night-in, night-out. His defense does not give him much help. That doesn't make him any less of an absolute workhorse for the Canes.

The Martin Gerber argument is a moot point. Ward was called upon, and led his team to win the Cup. If Gerber was so damn good, why did he tailspin out of the NHL so quickly?

I think the goalie on a team having issues early in the season is always going to receive flak, but painfully overrated? No. Patrik Stefan was painfully overrated. Could people have unrealistic expectations of what Cam Ward can do for a team? Yes.

A number of teams would line up to have him if he became available, and he would be a great addition to at least 5-10 NHL clubs.
