He's expressing personal frustration. It has nothing to do with selfishness. He's a goal scorer who's snake bitten, and expressing (outwardly) his frustration and disappointment in himself.
He needs a solid pat on the shoulder, and a coach who can help him overcome his frustration, so he can concentrate on doing his job, and playing with composure.

I would be happy the team won, not padding personal stats.
