Are they? Diaz, Gerber, Hiller and Streit went straight to the NHL, while players who went the AHL route either became borderline NHLers (Weber, Aebischer) or never made it (Riesen, Vauclair, Bezina, Ambühl, Blindenbacher), with Josi being the only exception.

Similar cases exists in most of the top European leagues and have been well documented by that IIHF study from a few years ago.
