Ryan Whitney has battled foot/leg injuries for most of the last few years. Whitney hasn't been very good for Edmonton. Healthy scratch.

Krueger won’t get into specifics but Whitney, whose strength is his passing ability, likely isn’t moving the puck crisply enough for the coach with the more upbeat Oilers’ style. He might be slowing the game down, too often. And, he is also not getting in the face of opposing forwards quick enough for the coaching staff. His game seems fragile now.

“My job isn’t a popular one. It’s getting the message across,” said Krueger. “I don’t want to reveal the details of private conversations but there is an opportunity for growth. Our game has become much more aggressive. We’re trying to avoid all situations where the game stops and we’re trying to avoid controlled break-outs and controlled forechecks. We want to keep the pace up. It’s a transition for everybody and Ryan has to adjust as well as others. This is an opportunity to step back and work with the coaches and come back even stronger.”

Whitney likes to slow the game down. Torts doesn't like that either. Whitney is a group III this summer.

Mark Fistric got hurt last night. He is a group III this summer. EDM traded a 3rd for him. A rental. Fistric would be a good fit for the Rangers.
