The way I see it , you have earned 1 point if you are tied after 60 minutes - you should get some reward for being all tied up at the end of regulation. What would be disgusting would be losing the point in a shootout ( ie winner take all for the 2 points). You cant play any more than 5 minutes overtime during the regular season - it wouldnt be practical. Or the league scrap the shootout altogether and teams split the 2 points.

As an Aussie I follow the National Rugby League in Australia, and they have golden point overtime if its a draw after the 80 minutes of a game. There is no loser point and it sucks to see a team play their hearts out for 80 minutes then lose in Golden Point and get nothing.

The NHL method is much better IMO , though the number of western conferences 3 point games this season seems excessive

Or do as it's done in the SEL. 3 points for a win in regulation. 2 points for a win in OT os SO. 1 point for a loss in OT or SO. And 0 points for a loss in regulation. Makes much more sense to me. Benefits the best teams and makes the last couple of minutes of a game more interesting.
