Kil, We have no money for infrastructure here in Ontario even the mighty Mississauga is coming up short. I wish we could use the money on Copps but ain't gonna happen.
The last referendum Hamilton had on the subject I actually voted against bringing a casino to the city, my views have altered substantially since then. I've been to Brantford many times over the years and having a casino in their downtown has helped spur a renascence for the area. I think those that trash a downtown casino are talking out of their ass. People should not be looking at this gift horse in the mouth...
I also can't help but think a casino might help the cause on the NHL front. A new owner might want to hitch their wagon to that star...
On infrastructure, cities that had extreme high growth are going to be in a world of hurt down the line when all their infrastructure needs come due at once. How attractive is Mississauga going to be when all their roads start crumbling and watermains start bursting all at once (Markham for that matter as well...)
