I think Laraque's more valuable than Downey. Georges is generally viewed as an enforcer who can play some decent hockey. He's got good size, he can lay some very good hits, he can win his battles along the boards, he can make trouble in the crease, you know, he finds ways to create things, wether it is space for his linemates, or a spark for his team. He's kept relatively decent offensive stats for an enforcer. And he's a great team guy, he stands up for teammates. The Oilers will probably get pushed around now that Laraque isn't there anymore. He was the best fighter in the league and opposing teams definintely had to think twice before pulling any crap on Laraque or his team. He was really an intimidating presence.
But with all that being said, 1.2 million$ seems a little expensive for a player of his kind. At least in today's league.
