Galiev will probably head for the KHL once his ELC is up if he doesn't crack the NHL by then, which he probably won't. If his skill alone can't even cut it in the AHL then it doesn't bode well for the future. Being a PPG player in the ECHL is literally the bare minimum for a "prospect" that's top-6 or nothing. Anything less than that would be a complete waste of a roster/contract slot.

Canada's problem at the WJC wasn't because they didn't take Wilson. They didn't have the players to handle the speed teams on the big rink. OTOH it means very little in projecting what he would do in the NHL.
