It seems like DW's strategy has changed recently though, especially in the last couple drafts. The draft picks that were successful for him have been guys like Pavelski who have good hockey IQ and hardworking as well and Vlasic who also has good IQ as well.

In the last couple years, he's been taking players that are pretty similar players. Lots of players with good work ethics or good hockey IQs and not so many skill players. Tons of two way forwards and puck moving defensemen as well. DW may have been slow to change his drafting strategy but he's finally done it.

I also think he's preparing for when Thornton and Marleau retire since he's been picking so many two way forwards as well. It'll make the transition easier if the prospects can be grouped into a team can be built like the Blues.
