Where would Edmonton and Buffalo be?

Thomas Vanek was offer sheeted by the Oilers in 2007 for four first rounders. Those first rounders could have been Jordan Eberle, MPS, Taylor Hall, and Ryan Nugent Hopkins.

Now, would the Oil really have been that much better with Vanek to not get dead last in '10 and '11 to collect their first round picks?

Also, how would Buffalo fans react to losing Vanek over the past 5 years.

I'm not sure if this has been talked to death already, but I find it interesting to think of the possibilities where Vanek had been an Oiler over the past few years and Buffalo collecting Edmonton's picks.
